Breaking Down Barriers

Acts 10

I. Two Miracles of Christ

Acts 9:32-43

  1. Aeneas: Victory over Sickness
    • Greek word epistrepho means to turn around.
    • Aeneas wasn’t the only one who moved that day. The city did a 180 and started moving in a different direction.
  2. Dorcas: Victory over Death
    • The church was encouraged.
    • Many lost people believed.
    • Dorcas was given more opportunity to serve the Lord.

II. Two Cultures in Conflict

Acts 10:1-16

  1. Cornelius the Gentile
    • Too many devout and nice people think they are saved, but being devout and nice does not save you.
    • God granted repentance that leads to life. God moved His people, empowered the gospel, sent the spirit. God worked this whole thing out for the spread of the gospel to the Gentiles.
  2. Peter the Jew
    • God had to break Peter of his biggest prejudice—Gentiles.
    • The Body of Christ is designed to be united — One Family.

III. Two Churches on Mission

Acts 11:19-26

  1. The Jerusalem Church
  2. The Antioch Church
    • The church at Antioch was founded by unnamed members of the church.
    • The church at Antioch would become the center for missions to the Gentiles, to all nations.
