- As a group read Acts 12:1-4. James is martyred and Peter lives.
- Does this seem fair?
- Why or why not?
- What are the benefits of James’ death?
- Reads Acts 12:5.
- How does the church respond to Peter being thrown in prison?
- Talk about prayer. What does prayer do?
- What are some reasons that we don’t pray?
- What happens when we fail to pray?
- What are some things that you need to be praying about today?
- Take time to pray right now for those needs.
- As a group read Acts 12:6-17. Peter seems pretty relaxed in light of his impending death the next day.
- Why do you think this is and how would you respond if you were in the same position?
- Also, read Psalm 91:11-12 and ask people in the group if they have a story were they felt an angel protected them.
- As a group read Acts 12:21-23. How did God deal with Herod’s pride?
- Read Daniel 4:24-37 and compare.
- Read James 4:6. How does God respond to pride?
- Take a few minutes to discuss pride.
- How would you define pride?
- Why does God oppose it?
- How is the pride an offense to the glory of God?
- Pray that God would show you areas of pride in your own heart so that your life and words might give God the glory He deserves us and Peter are responsive to the Spirits prompting in their life.
- Acts 12:24 says, “But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.” In the groups opinion why do you think this is?
