  1. Death frees us from the law (vv. 1-3)
    • The law has authority only over the living
    • Death ends all obligations and contracts
  2. Through the death of Jesus, we too have died to the law (vv. 4-6)
    • We are free so we can be married to Jesus and bear fruit to God
    • When we were in the flesh, we did not bear fruit to God, but instead bore fruit to death.
    • Our freedom is not given so we can stop serving God but that we can serve Him better.
  3. The Purpose of the Law (vv. 7-13)
    • The Law exposes sin
    • The Law condemns sin
    • The Law reveals the power of sin
    • The Law reveals the effects of sin
    • The Law reveals the deception of sin
    • The Law reveals the sinfulness of sin (vv. 12-13)
