Discussion Questions

  1. Read Leviticus 16:15-22. How does this passage answer how sinful people may dwell in God’s holy presence?
  2. How will God forgive iniquity, transgression, and sin? How does this foreshadow Jesus?
  3. If God is holy and detests sin, do you detest sin in your life? Or do you think it’s not really a big deal?
  4. Read Matthew 18:21-22. Rabbinical law said that you are to forgive a person three times when they have wronged you, so Peter looked very generous. What do you think about Jesus telling us to forgive a person so many times?
  5. To illustrate extravagant forgiveness, Jesus told a story. Read Matthew 18:23-27. What do you think it would have felt like to have that large of a debt forgiven? Share about a time someone extended wild forgiveness to you.
  6. Isaiah 53:4-6 gives God’s description of people. What are people like? What is every human’s true nature? Would you call yourself a rebel at heart? Are you bent on having your own way in life?
  7. The last portion of 53:4 suggests that some people misinterpret why Jesus died. What is the reason mentioned? From 53:5, what would you say is the reason for the Servant’s suffering?
  8. The truth is Jesus died because of our sins. Do you believe Jesus died for your sins? If so, when did this first occur? If not, why do you hesitate? Is it related to whether you see yourself as a stray sheep?
