The Only Way

Small Group Discussion

Read Romans 9:30-10:13

  1. What stood out to you from the passage?
  2. In my Christian experience is Jesus a stumbling stone or a cornerstone (Romans 9:30–33)?
    • Am I standing on the Rock or stumbling over it?
    • How am I presently building my life on the Rock?
    • Is Jesus the cornerstone of my life?
    • If so, how am I standing on Him and building upon Him?
  3. How would you describe Paul‘s attitude toward unsaved Jews (Romans 10:1)?
    • How is my attitude toward unbelievers similar or different?
    • How can I increase my burden for the lost?
    • Who am I currently praying for that needs Jesus?
    • What am I prepared to do about it?
  4. How can I be sure that I have a grace-based faith and not a works-based faith (Romans 10:6–8)?
    • Why is it so important to clearly and simply present the gospel?
    • Have I mastered the content of the gospel?
    • Am I able to quickly and easily share Christ with others?
    • When is the last time I have done so?
  5. Why is it so essential to believe that God raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 10:9–10)?
    • How frequently do I confess Christ? With such joy in our salvation, why are so many believers reluctant to confess Christ?
    • Discuss this statement: ―There is no such thing as secret discipleship. Either the secrecy destroys the discipleship or the discipleship destroys the secrecy.
    • Why can this be considered a biblical truth?
  6. Do I genuinely believe that Christianity is for all people (Romans 10:11–13)?
    • Am I convinced that Jesus never disappoints (10:11)? Why or why not? Am I doing everything I can to help people believe in Christ?
    • In what ways am I partnering with my church to share the good news?

Personal Application

Apply this to your life…

  1. Sometimes, even Christians, can become zealous for a new concept of plan of action not supported by the Word of God. Everything we do and believe must be guided by an accurate knowledge of God’s Word. Zeal is great if it is guided by truth.
    • Is there any area of your life in which you are “zealous”, but you are not really sure your zeal is being properly guided by God’s Word?
    • Is there an area in which you need to be more zealous?
  2. Being in God’s Word (listening to it, reading it) should be an everyday part of a believer’s life. We should believe what He tells us and then act upon it.
    • Has God been speaking to you from His Word about something specific lately, but you have not been listening to it or acting upon it?
    • You may be aware that God is trying to get your attention, but at the same time you are ignoring the “voice” of God. Are you refusing to listen to and obey God’s Word in some particular area?
